JOIN THE ESSENTIAL DISCUSSION ON DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
LAAT is hosting an interesting and informative conference around diversity, inclusion and the primary curriculum on the 15th October 2021 at The Bentley Hotel in South Hykeham, Lincoln. Free to all LAAT school members of staff (£65 for non-LAAT schools) this is an essential event for head teachers, subject leaders and curriculum leads looking to expand their knowledge and understanding of D&I principles and practice in primary education today.
The Trust is delighted to have secured three of the education sector’s most experienced names to lead the conference sessions and workshops. Christine Counsell is an acclaimed academic consultant, trainer, author and speaker who works with policy-makers, leaders and scholars and regularly advises DfE and Ofsted. Bennie Kara speaks, writes and trains on diversity in the curriculum and has written on the subject of diversity for publications such as Schools Week and the Chartered College of Teaching’s Education Exchange. Adrian Gray has many years of inspection experience and has also been involved in the development of schools’ inspection policy nationally.
From principles to practice
Leading the morning session, Christine will focus on the relationship between knowledge, literacy and inclusion and look at why Ofsted is emphasising the big four: scope, rigour, conferencing, and sequencing. She will also present real examples of effective subject curricula with reference to KS2 humanities and what kinds of high-leverage teaching bring out the best in a knowledge-rich curricula and how these can help with low prior attainers
The afternoon session will commence with a choice of curriculum focussed workshops led by Christine, Bennie, and Adrian. Christine will be running the workshop Developing our subject leaders (A workshop illustrating purposes and processes in middle leadership development, with particular reference to history) whilst Bennie will be taking Diversity in the Curriculum (A talk on the misconceptions of diversity in the curriculum and how to avoid tokenism in the curriculum) and Adrian is hosting Curriculum: The Local Context.
